John Burton Advocates for Youth improves the quality of life for youth in California who have been in foster care or homeless by advocating for better laws, training communities to strengthen local practices and conducting research to inform policy solutions.

This website provides resources for emergency shelters, foster care, housing, legal, domestic violence, immigration and etc. 

Provides cash benefits for the care of children in need when one or both parents are absent, disabled, deceased or unemployed. If you are eligible for CalWORKs, you automatically qualify for Medi-Cal and you might qualify for CalFresh (formerly known as Food Stamps) as well.

The mission of the California Office of the Foster Care Ombudsperson (OFCO) is to advocate on behalf of foster children and youth regarding their care, placement, and services. The OFCO is an autonomous entity that is empowered to investigate and informally resolve complaints impacting foster youth, increase awareness about foster youth rights, and make recommendations to help support systemic change.

Orangewood Foundation is a 501(c)(3) nonprofit (Fed’l tax ID #95-3616628) and one of the leading providers of services to youth in Orange County. We help almost 2,000 youth annually prepare for independent adulthood.

EOPS / CARE / NEXTUP / GUARDIAN SCHOLARS

Extended Opportunity Programs & Services (EOPS), CARE (single parents), and NextUp/Guardian Scholars (foster youth) Programs at Golden West College are dedicated to the delivery of comprehensive programs that encourage the enrollment, retention, and transfer of students who are challenged by language, social, economic, and/or educational barriers.

The Mt. SAC Mountie Fresh Basic Needs Resources is a comprehensive campus-wide effort that serves students experiencing housing instability, food insecurity, and other emergency/crisis situations.

REACH

REACH is an educational program designed to assist current and former foster youth. REACH provides assistance and support to our Foster Youth students in their transition into college, at Mt. SAC and as they graduate and/or transfer to a university.

Academic counseling and case management
Job development and placement
Tutoring (math)
Monthly workshops, activities and special events
Referrals to campus and community resources

EOPS

Works with students whose educational and socioeconomic backgrounds might limit their access to higher education or hinder their ability to be academically successful in their college-level studies.


Guardian Scholars/Y.E.S.S. (Youth Empowerment Strategies for Success)

Acknowledging this need, the CCCCO is sponsoring a concerted effort called the Foster Youth Success Initiative (FYSI) to bring issues affecting those youth to the forefront; while improving their access to postsecondary education and help them benefit from the support services that are available but often unknown to them.
